Something else to consider: this comes from my devotions this morning. Colossians 3:12-17 As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone...

At our Westside Thirst this week our wonderful and faithful server, Angel, challenged us to do one thing this coming month that represents God's will for your life. We can use this forum to ask questions and share stories as we go about trying to...

yep. This passage from jeremiah 31 is in my top 5 favs. for me, it serves as one of those 'canons within the canon' through which we are to interpret the rest of scripture, b/c it summarizes the entire narrative from creation to covenant, to gift ...

Tatoo Jesus

I've been trying to write a blog post lately, but the critical, analytic, creative part of my brain that produces coherent writing has been kind of sluggish. Which has been a bit of a downer for me. But I recently discovered this blog through the Sojourners God's Politics blog, which Pastor Nadia Bolz-Weber also occasionally writes for. A lot of the posts are the transcripts from her sermons, and the writer and speaker in me delights in imagining how this must sound when preached aloud. (Sort of… Continue

Living in Holy Saturday

After Bible study this evening, a few of us students stuck around to shoot the breeze, air our hurts and frustrations, laugh, preach to each other, and just BE with each other. And it struck me as we were talking that a lot of us feel like we're living in Holy Saturday right now. So much has happened in the past months that makes us feel like God is distant or defeated--whether it's a difficulty seeing God at work in our lives, waiting for healing, or recoiling in pain as we are hurt by those wh… Continue

Food for thought

This is a small portion of Christian Wilman's article "God is Not Beyond," which can be found in the 2/24/09 issue of The Christian Centurey. I found it interesting, especially the part that I put in bold type...it's somewhat unnerving how well it describes me. Anyway, it's some food for thought.

Profile Pics

You may have noticed that there are now a lot of the same weird looking profile pics. I thought the pic of my 2 year old son in Elton John glasses was a whole lot more interesting to look at than those bland empty gray cartoony pics that come standard for those who don't upload their own profile pic. Feel free to change it to your own pic if you'd like. But if you don't want your own picture to appear, or if you prefer looking at Zeke in Elton John glasses more so than your own mug, then you may… Continue

Ning Rocks

I can't tell you how super jazzed I am about having a ning website for Thirst. This can be a great way to connect with others. I really experience God at work through social networking with a group of people who ask themselves the hard questions about life, society, politics, culture, religion, relationships, and such. My prayer is that people, who are either already involved in Thirst or who have heard about Thirst, will connect here for conversation and invite lots of other people to join in.
